42nd Annual Basketball Tournament

The Woodsville – Wells River Rotary Club will be hosting our 42st Annual Junior High School Basketball Tournament in January 2009.

This year’s tournament will be held at the Blue Mountain Union School in Wells River on Saturday & Sunday January 17 & 18 and Saturday & Sunday January 24 & 25. The first game will start at 1 p.m. each day.

The first weekend will have boys and girls teams from Haverhill, Lyndon, Rivendell Academy and St Johnsbury. January 24 & 25 will feature boys and girls teams from Barnet, BMU, Monroe and Waterford. Each Saturday both boys and girls teams from each school will play in the first round, and compete again on Sunday for the consolation prize and the championship.

The Club is selling ads in the program distributed at the games. For information, contact Gary Chamberlin at (802) 222-9211 or email familystacks@aol.com. Deadline for all ads is January 7.

Proceeds from the tournament are used by the Woodsville -- Wells River Rotary Club for their scholarship fund. This year, the Club will award a $1,000 scholarship to a student from each of Blue Mountain Union High School, River Bend Career & Technical Center, Woodsville High School and another local school to be determined. We will have our photographer at the tournament and photos from the games will be on sale at the tournament and on this site.

Rev. Nhliziyo of the United Church of Christ, South Africa visited our Club Tuesday November 11, 2008. Rev. Nhliziyo is originally from Zimbabwe, and he spoke about the UCC SA's efforts to train community and political leaders to help in Zimbabwe's humanitarian crisis.
